On this composition
A folk tale, retold for your wall.
Jaadu ka show. A magician in a rose-striped coat saws through a carved box while two white doves burst out of it. Down below, the whole town has turned up - mothers with handbags, a dad with a toddler on his hip, kids tugging at saris - in a long queue that winds round to the little ticket window on the left.
Coconut palms, banana trees and a second tent fill the background, and two painted elephants and a peacock wander along the bottom. Everything is drawn in a fine black Kalamkari line in rose, mustard, sage and indigo on cream, with rows of birds and lotuses above, dancers and lamps below, a red-flowered vine border and a flat stone-grey edge.
A portrait piece full of small stories to spot - for a cafe, a family room, a hallway or a kids' study.
