On this composition
A folk tale, retold for your wall.
School is out and the bioscope has come to the corner. An old wala in a white turban, kurta and dhoti, with a big curled moustache, rings his little bell and turns the crank of a tall wooden box painted with peacocks and vines, the word bioscope lettered in Hindi on a yellow panel at the top.
Six kids in white school shirts and grey shorts and skirts push in close, the lucky ones with their eyes already at the brass rings. A bicycle rests against a shady tree and a tea stall with copper pots and glasses waits behind. Drawn in the fine outlined manner of a Kalamkari cloth in madder red, sage, ochre and cream, inside a red border of open flowers.
A joyful slice of an Indian childhood - for a cafe, a family room, a kids' room or a gallery wall.
