The old bioscope wala sits on his little stool in a turban and striped kurta, moustache curled, turning the crank of his painted wooden box. The neighbourhood kids have all come running - one is already pressed to the window, the rest crowd round in frocks and shorts waiting for their turn. The box reads बायस्कोप.

Behind them the street carries on: cycles parked by the shops, a woman at a fruit cart, a sweet stall, a tree and low town houses. Bands of birds, flowers, elephants and peacocks run along the top and bottom. It is drawn in a fine black kalam line on cream with madder red, indigo, ochre and wood brown, inside a vine border of red and blue flowers with a flat warm-red edge.

Pure childhood nostalgia - for a cafe wall, a kids' room, a living room or a family gallery wall.
